Unusual eucrite breccia.

NWA 4396 is a very unusual and interesting polymict eucrite with a very high content in iron. I have not seen an eucrite with such a high iron content yet, the iron content is about comparable with a L-chondrite. The matrix is very wild composed of clasts embedded in a fine grained goundmass, also partly extremely metal poor clasts can be observed. NWA 4396 is certaily a very unusual and beautiful achondrite but I will offer some pieces here at a very collector firendly and reasonable price at $12 /gm. Ordinarily you get for this price only material of usual eucrites with a high Tkw. This meteorite is highly recommended, not only for the achondrite collectors. For collectors of unsusual meteorites is NWA 4396 a first choice.

Very very high iron content in NWA 4396. A neodymium
magnet sticks with small side to a slice of NWA 4396.

NWA 4396
Purchased 2006 in Morocco
Achondrite (polymict eucrite)

History: The meteorite was found by an anonymous finder in Northwest Africa and bought by the main mass holder in Midelt, Morocco. Physical characteristics: A single stone of 680 g was recovered. Petrography: (A. Greshake, MNB). The meteorite is a polymict breccia consisting of coarse- and fine-grained basaltic and mineral clasts set into a fine-grained clastic groundmass. Mineral fragments are mostly large plagioclase and exsolved Ca-pyroxene. Minor phases include silica, ilmenite, and troilite. Geochemistry: Mineral composition as determined by EMP: plagioclase, An58.9-92.7; pyroxene, Fs26.8-59.3Wo2.4-42.6. Classification: Polymict eucrite, low degree of shock, moderate to high degree of weathering. Specimens: A total of 20 g plus one polished thin section are on deposit at MNB. Mr. Stefan Ralew, Kunibertstraße 29, 12524 Berlin, Germany, holds the main mass.

Unusual eucrite breccia with
very high iron content
.

NWA 4397 is another eucrite very rich in metal. However, this achondrite does not seem to be paired with the NWA 4396 (see above). The color of the matrix and the crust is different than NWA 4396, in addition, the metal content is clearly higher. It is definitively the eucrite richest in metal which I have ever seen. One can see a lot of small iron grains in the saw surfaces.

Only $14 /gm.

An unbelievably high iron content in NWA 4097.
A Neodyme magnet sticks without problems with the small side to this eucrite.
